I gave you my best,
I answered the bell.
You demanded the rest,
then put me through hell.

Once we shared love,
commitment, caring, and trust.
Seemed blessed from above
until everything went bust.

You told me to leave
without so much as a please.
Words I did not believe
cut me off at the knees.

I wandered around,
another brokenhearted dope.
No purpose to be found,
feeling lost without hope.

One day I arose
from my emotional slumber.
I survived, I suppose,
I called my own number.

I sprang off the floor,
walked down a sunny street.
Found an open door,
took a much better seat.
