The summer beckons as the butterfies roam
The bright warm evenings, we play far from home
We have waited with snowballs, conkers, kites
The summer haze arrives bringing bright days, long nights

School breaks - release and we flop to a rest
Shorts and tees replace sweaters with a crest
Holiday snaps freeze smiles, sun and laughs
Sticky ice cream washed away in sandy bottomed baths

Days turn to weeks which then turns to fall
We hear the school bells slowly crank their piercing call
New school bags packed with fresh shiny pens
Summer's gone again: a beginning or an end?
