(in the Southwest, 1870s)

She was taken by Apaches, and taken, and taken,
She was beaten, she was tortured, and taunted,
She became a wild thing, a survivor,
Still, she became as a demon that haunted.

She was retaken by white men, and taunted,
She was a wild thing, and better off dead,
As a survivor, they deemed her improper,
And unfit, as a woman, to wed.

She had to survive in a barroom,
As a place that was fit for her kind,
She was tortured and taken and taken,
And they judged she was weak in the mind.
